Position Overview

This role involves assisting with the performance of electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG) to obtain diagnostic-quality tracings. The technician prepares patients, operates specialized ECG equipment including treadmills, and ensures accurate lead placement and skin preparation. Responsibilities also include downloading, editing, and distributing ECG reports, verifying orders and billing, and maintaining cardiology records.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain a safe and clean work environment adhering to safety and infection control standards.
Prepare patients by explaining procedures and instructing them prior to testing.
Perform proper skin preparation, including shaving if necessary, to ensure good lead contact.
Operate ECG/EKG machines and related equipment such as treadmills and mobile carts.
Record ECG/EKG tracings and upload them to archival systems.
Screen ECG/EKG results for arrhythmias or ST changes and promptly report concerns to physicians.
Maintain accurate computer records and assist with related paperwork.
Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report any needed repairs.
Communicate effectively and build positive interpersonal relationships.
Respond promptly to acute emergency situations.
Assist in training new electrocardiography technicians.
Perform treadmill stress tests within cardiology.
Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year clinical experience performing ECG/EKG tests.
Familiarity with ECG/EKG equipment, including treadmills and carts.
Proficiency with computer software related to cardiology documentation.
Strong patient care skills.
Education

High school diploma or GED required.
Certifications

ECG/EKG certification preferred, ideally from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, preferably American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
All candidates must successfully complete a physical evaluation, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment.
