The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant (PA) provides advanced clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary conditions across outpatient, inpatient, and procedural settings. Working collaboratively with gastroenterologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the PA evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, manages chronic and acute GI conditions, and supports continuity of digestive health care.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories and physical examinations
Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions
Conduct outpatient clinic visits and/or inpatient consultations and follow-up
Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, imaging, and pathology results
Develop and implement treatment plans under physician supervision
Manage GI-related medications, including biologics and infusion therapies as appropriate
Assist with or prepare patients for endoscopic and procedural interventions
Monitor treatment response and adjust care plans accordingly
Provide patient and family education on diagnoses, procedures, medications, and lifestyle modification
Coordinate care with primary care providers, surgery, oncology, hepatology, nutrition, and infusion services
Participate in discharge planning and transitions of care
Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and gastroenterology service initiatives

Post-procedure and post-hospital follow-up
Day shift with variable hours
May include limited call or weekend coverage depending on service needs
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current national certification as a Physician Assistant
Active or eligible state licensure
BLS certification required
Prior gastroenterology, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or primary care experience preferred
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
Familiarity with GI testing, endoscopy workflows, and evidence-based treatment guidelines
Excellent communication and patient education skills
Ability to manage chronic disease populations effectively
Strong organizational and documentation abilities
Outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and procedural areas
Requires standing, walking, and patient interaction throughout the day
Exposure to procedural and diagnostic environments
