REGISTERED NURSE: University Hospital (7DS- Acute Hemodialysis)
A skilled registered nurse will provide comprehensive care to dialysis patients in the Acute Hemodialysis Unit. Duties include independent assessment, monitoring, and intervention for patient status changes, medication administration, documentation, and participation in quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

Perform focused assessment of dialysis patients to deliver effective patient care.

Assess, monitor, report, and manage significant changes in patient condition, including responses to medications and treatments.

Provide nursing care, administer medications and treatments ordered, and assist with interventional procedures.

Document patient care and changes in status accurately.

Identify problems presented by patients and families, initiating appropriate interventions.

Act as a resource to other health‑care team members by providing nursing advice and consultation.

Individualize communication based on patient and family assessments.

Set up, prime, initiate, manage/monitor, and terminate specialized renal therapies, including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Peritoneal Dialysis.

Assist physicians with sterile procedures for acute line placements.

Complete on‑call assignments as scheduled.

Maintain clinical expertise in renal failure patient populations through ongoing education.

Participate in patient safety initiatives and research studies.

Required Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.

Minimum of two (2) years of current acute inpatient hemodialysis experience or three (3) years of current Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience, evidenced by performance reviews and professional references.

Ability to pass the EKG and hemodialysis examinations with a minimum score of 80% prior to completion of orientation.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

ACLS certification.

Demonstrated participation in continuous quality improvement processes with documented results.

Prior ICU or emergency department registered nursing experience.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level
This position is posted as Nursing Framework Level C. The actual Nursing Framework Level and salary will be determined at the time of hire.

Work Schedule
Appointment: 36 hours per week. Primarily evening, twelve‑hour shifts (4:00 p.m.–4:30 a.m.), with occasional coverage of a 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m. shift. Orientation will include ten‑hour day shifts. The role requires on‑call coverage, weekends, and holidays.
