Role overview : Tesla is seeking a Senior-level Engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated material handling systems for new and existing factories and programs. This position is based in Gigafactory Texas near Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, work as part of an agile and motivated team, and demonstrate thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

What You'll Do

Design automated material handling solutions to establish new and improved material flows throughout the factory. The design includes material arrival at docks, delivery to line-side locations, material transport between internal manufacturing lines, buffer/storage systems, and robotic material handling for products such as car bodies, large components, pallets/boxes/trays, and battery cells.

Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with 3rd parties on system build, integration, and testing.

Specify equipment in project specifications and requirements.

Leverage outside partners for solution development and design.

Manage project scope, budget, timeline, and implementation.

Lead the overall layout and system design process.

Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities.

Support troubleshooting during installation and start-up and be responsible for handover to Tesla production teams.

What You'll Bring

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.

10+ years of practical automated material handling and process equipment design experience in industries such as automotive, consumer goods/food & beverage manufacturing, distribution, and semiconductor.

A passion to work with automation equipment and design processes around it.

Ability to lead a project from concept through installation and hand-over while working in a close-knit team environment.

Understanding of the integration of equipment design into existing or new systems.

Knowledge of material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems.

Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty.
