Position Description

Torque by Ryder is immediately hiring a permanent full‑time experienced mobile diesel technician to support our truck fleet in Memphis, TN.
About the Role

We want the right maintenance repair mechanic technician to join us at Ryder to manage our fleet of heavy‑duty trucks.
Responsibilities

Interact with customers, exhibit account‑management skills to independently facilitate preventative maintenance, repair issue resolution, and discuss new repair estimates.
Coordinate work schedule as required by customers. Road‑test vehicles to identify causes of complaints, ensure quality of repair work performed, and deliver customer satisfaction.
Preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs include:

A/C & Heater: operate the system, perform system checks, and identify Freon and oil leaks.
Brakes‑Air: identify components, operate brakes, identify irregular noises and leaks, perform simple air system tests, adjust brakes, and perform brake repairs after training.
Brakes‑Hydraulic: road‑test for proper operation, inspect leaks, check park brake operation, adjust service brakes, and perform brake repairs after training.
Cargo Handling/Transfer, Liftgates: identify leaks, operate lift gates, add fluid, and make minor adjustments to lift platform controls.
Charging Systems (electrical): inspect batteries, clean connections, test batteries, replace/adjust belts, and perform basic charging system checks.
Clutch: lubricate throw‑out bearing, linkage, shafts, and cables; identify proper clutch operation.
Cooling Systems: check and adjust coolant levels, inspect for leaks, perform minor repairs such as hose replacements and fan shrouds, use refractometer, pressure tester, flush and refill systems.
Cranking System (electrical): inspect and test batteries, clean battery cables and starter, replace/charge batteries as needed.
Lighting System and Electrical Accessories: repair minor wiring problems, replace bulbs and lenses, install or replace accessories such as heated mirrors.
Drive Axles: inspect housings for leaks, change oil and filter, clean breathers.
Driveline: lubricate drive line and inspect components for wear.
Gas Engines–All Engines: check and adjust oil levels, identify unusual noises and oil leaks.
Fuel Systems: replace and prime fuel filters, check fuel system components for integrity.
Preventive Maintenance: proper lube techniques, minimal tire inspection, brake checks, battery checks, initial fault code identification, and extensive PM tasks.
Steering and Alignment: lubricate grease fittings, check and adjust fluid levels, check steering components, adjust trailer axle alignment, and replace wheel seals.
Suspension‑Chassis and Cab: identify normal operation, repair minor air leaks, manage broken springs and bushings.
Tire and Wheel Maintenance: perform air pressure checks, check tread depth, replace or repair tires, mount/dismount and rotate tires per PM.
Vehicle Coupling System (PM): lubricate fifth wheel plate and slider mechanism.
Utilize our shop management system and electronic documentation to perform work in compliance with all federal, provincial, and corporate regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Ensure proper maintenance of all service, safety, and environmental records to meet all required regulations.
Accountable for key maintenance measurements established by company policy.
Act as a mentor for lower‑level technicians.
Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree (preferred).
Basic tools required.
Experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and advanced repairs.
Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred).
Non‑Commercial Driver’s License CLASS E (preferred).
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A (preferred).
Other state driver’s license as required.
Two (2) years or more experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment.
Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles.
Ability to understand and adhere to company policies, complete repair orders, maintain professional relationships, work independently or as part of a team, prioritize workload, provide customer service, manage accounts, communicate effectively, and operate in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong relationship management, verbal and written communication skills, flexibility, self‑starter, multi‑tasking, organization, and attention to detail.
Entrepreneurial spirit and adherence to preventive‑maintenance standards within specified time frames (e.g., PM230 & PM298 within 90 days, Brake‑Air BA220 & BA298, CF609 & AC220/AC298 within 180 days, etc.).
Complete required OEM on‑line diagnostic tool courses and initial training within specified periods.
