Job Summary
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is seeking a full-time, inpatient APC to provide primary and specialty medical services in a University Health Sciences hospital unit. Responsibilities

Coordinate inpatient care, consultations/referrals, referring provider follow-up, and discharges.

Work with attendings, residents, nurses, medical students, health care assistants and unlicensed support staff.

Collaborate closely with the inpatient healthcare team regarding patient health care plans and treatment.

Order, interpret, and evaluate labs and diagnostic tests to assess patients’ clinical problems and healthcare needs.

Perform selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.

Initiate and/or recommend medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.

Counsel patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promote health maintenance.

Evaluate, plan, implement, and reevaluate the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.

Comply with medical records policies regarding complete and accurate documentation of patient care.

Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents.

Participate in quality improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the State of Utah.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association, or obtain within one month of hire, as determined by credentialing.

Preferred Qualifications

Utah State prescriptive privileges.

National certification as a Nurse Midwife.

Work Environment and Frequency

Nearly continuously: Hospital environment.

Often: Exposure to infectious disease, oils, hazardous conditions, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals.

Physical Requirements and Frequency

Nearly continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. All patient-sensitive employees are required to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

2+ years of experience in a clinical environment.

Academic experience, supervision abilities, and Spanish speaking capabilities are welcomed.

Additional services may be supported based on specific provider expertise.

Exceptional leadership, communication and administrative skills, and ability to work independently.

Ability to prioritize, be efficient, organized, thorough, with exceptional time management skills.

As a School of Medicine staff member, student and resident education will be a critical component of this position.
