Design Technician II – Electrical

Job Summary
Design Technician II is responsible for producing detailed design documents and technical drawings for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems in multi‑family new construction projects. The role supports engineers and project managers through all project phases—from schematic design to construction administration—while ensuring all MEP systems are coordinated, efficient, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting

Develop and modify detailed MEP construction documents using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other design software.

Create coordinated layouts for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems within multi‑family residential buildings.

Prepare riser diagrams, single‑line diagrams, load calculations, and equipment schedules.

Assist in developing design options and value‑engineering alternatives to meet project budgets and performance goals.

Project Coordination

Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure seamless system integration.

Support senior engineers in reviewing shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction.

Participate in design review meetings and coordination sessions with clients and contractors.

Technical & Code Compliance

Apply knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including IPC, IMC, NEC, ASHRAE, and local jurisdiction requirements.

Conduct preliminary load and pressure drop calculations for HVAC and plumbing systems.

Assist in the preparation of energy code compliance documentation.

Quality & Documentation

Maintain organized and accurate drawing sets and project documentation.

Ensure design output meets company and client quality standards.

Support continuous improvement of design templates, standards, and workflows.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience) or willingness to obtain.

Autodesk Certifications (CAD, REVIT, Navisworks, Bluebeam) preferred.

3–5 years of experience in MEP design, preferably within the multi‑family or residential new construction sector.

Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems design fundamentals.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP required.

Familiarity with design tools such as Carrier HAP, Trace 700, or similar HVAC load programs preferred.

Strong understanding of building codes and construction documents.

Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans.

Soft Skills

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Problem‑solving and adaptability to various project needs.
