Part‑time Veterinary Assistants
to join our team.

has been an AAHA Accredited hospital for 34 years. We have been providing quality and compassionate veterinary care for the pets of New London County, CT since 1982. We offer state‑of‑the‑art care for our patients and are looking for someone with compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a very busy environment. Position Overview
The veterinary assistant supports veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care and provide exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Provide compassionate care to all patients.
Greet patients and owners, take weight and vital signs upon arrival.
Triage patients, perform physical exams and treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs).
Calm and soothe anxious patients.
Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint.
Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
Operate and maintain hospital equipment, including EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, and machines.
Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, and log and secure controlled drugs.
Feed patients per the attending doctor or client instructions, record appetites, and report abnormal conditions or behaviors.
Communicate positively with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s).
Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans.
Maintain hospital cleanliness, clean equipment, kennels, and facilities using chemicals, ensure safe chemical use, and complete laundry.
Bath and care for overnight patients, ensuring animals released are clean and groomed.
Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence at work is essential for every shift.
Promote hospital products and services and support the organization.
Respond respectably and promptly to directions from the DVM or LVT.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; may include specialty‑area tasks.
Qualifications (Required)
High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered.
Maintain current knowledge in the field and actively pursue continuing education.
Ability to restrain animals.
Ability to work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
Flexible scheduling; able to work weekends and holidays.
Depends on functional area, tasks may involve extended time at a workstation, standing, walking, or routine physical activity.
Job requires lifting, cleaning, and constant motion; may involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Periodic moderate physical demands; may involve lifting or carrying animals up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Experience in a veterinary environment performing the duties of this position.
Schedule
1 part‑time shift: several afternoons during the week and weekend kennel split shift on Saturdays from 8 am–12 am & 5 pm–6 pm and Sundays from 7 am–8 am & 5 pm–6 pm.
Second part‑time shift: a few AM shifts; weekend shift can be split between the two part‑time workers.
After training, a set schedule will apply; additional hours may be available to cover shifts.
