Job Summary
The Hospital Police Officer Registry protects and ensures the safety of Cook County Health employees, patients, and visitors to the hospital and its adjacent campus and grounds. It patrols assigned areas, monitors crowds and traffic, responds to incidents as they occur, completes incident and other reports, liaisons with other law enforcement agencies regarding crime conditions for CCH, and maintains completed status for various annual certification requirements. This is a part‑time registry position with an opportunity to work no more than eighteen hours per week.
Typical Duties
Protect and ensure the safety of Hospital employees, patients, and visitors.
Patrol assigned areas.
Monitor crowds and traffic.
Respond to incidents as they occur.
Complete incident and other reports as required.
Liaison with other law enforcement agencies regarding crime conditions at CCH.
Maintain completed status for various annual certification requirements.
Work up to 9 hours per day, no more than 18 hours per week.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Police Officer.
Prior experience as a Certified Police Officer.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License (to provide at interview).
Valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card issued by the State of Illinois (to provide original card at interview).
No felony or misdemeanor convictions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and familiarity with procedures relating to emergency and natural disaster situations.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable local, state, and federal statutes and ordinances.
Ability to understand and obey orders and function within the guidelines, rules, and regulations governing Cook County Health.
Ability to make sound judgments in law enforcement situations.
Ability to chronicle events and record information accurately.
Veteran Preference
Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served at least six months of continuous service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
To qualify for this preference a Veteran must:
Meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
Identify as a Veteran on the employment application.
Submit a copy of DD‑214, DD‑215, or NGB‑22 (or a valid State ID/Driver’s License identifying the holder as a Veteran) with the application. If multiple, submit the one with the latest date. The discharge must be honorable.
Provide original documents at the time of interview.
All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory references, background checks, licensure/certifications, and completion of a physical and drug screen.
