Position Highlights
Schedule: All vacancies are part‑time (34 hours), first shift, office/on‑site
Shift options:
Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday (7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.), Thursday (9:15 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), Saturday (7:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.)
Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday (9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.), Thursday (10:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.), Saturday (7:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.)
Locations: Bridgeport, Cheshire, Danbury, Enfield, Hamden, New Britain, Norwalk, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Waterbury, Wethersfield, Windham (Willimantic). (Norwalk may require work in Stamford satellite; Windham may require work in Putnam satellite)

The Role
The Motor Vehicle Examiner positions are part of Branch Operations. Employees will work in a fast‑paced environment with a high volume of customer contact and money handling. The role includes intake of customers, performing a wide range of motor vehicle transactions, and proficiency with computer systems and data entry. Employees may be required to work in other branch locations and may work overtime. Schedule may be up to 39 hours per week.
Examples of Duties
Review and examine applications and supporting documents for operator licenses, vehicle registrations, and certificates of title to ensure complete and accurate information.
Perform limited restorations of driver licenses or motor vehicle registrations.
Verify data such as insurance coverage, year, make, model, VIN, property tax liability, and suspension records.
Determine proof of ownership and existence of encumbrances from submitted information.
Contact municipal collectors of revenue to obtain clearance.
Prepare appropriate form letters to advise of rejection or request additional information.
Compare data elements with automotive reference manuals and manufacturer’s publications for verification.
Check for erasures or omissions in typing.
Respond to inquiries from the public and co‑workers and provide correct information on requirements and procedures.
Issue motor vehicle operator licenses containing photograph of applicant.
Collect fees.
Verify and validate applications and supporting documentation.
Operate camera; die cut and laminate photographs to licenses.
Make minor adjustments to and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Operate cash register and other office equipment such as calculators and computer terminals.
Schedule appointments.
Prepare financial documents and reports.
Balance cash and documents.
Process registration renewals.
Examine title applications and ensure completion; may process disposition requests submitted by garage owners.
Receive training and may perform limited full‑scale registration activities such as issuance of vehicle and boat registrations, toll plates, collection of title fees, sales tax, verification of proof of ownership, and determination of appropriate registration transaction.
May maintain records of approved and rejected applications; may perform specific research assignments such as chain of ownership or lien information; may clear duplicate identification lists; may type.
Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
Three (3) years of clerical experience.
Minimum Qualifications – Special Experience
One (1) year of the General Experience must have included clerical experience where a majority of the time involved face‑to‑face contact with the general public, or telephone customer service with a primary responsibility of providing information concerning or explaining programs/services or resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
College training may be substituted for General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one‑half (½) year of experience, to a maximum of two (2) years.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a production environment with face‑to‑face customer service.
Experience communicating with customers and resolving customer escalations.
Experience reviewing legal documents, entering data and confidential information.
Experience processing cash, checks, credit card transactions, and balancing a register.
Experience independently applying policies and procedures to make decisions.
Experience operating computers, using software applications and systems, and working with standard office equipment such as printers, scanners, fax machines.
Experience working and completing assignments with competing priorities.
Experience coordinating workflows and conducting data checks to identify and correct errors.
