Position Summary
The incumbent will report to the VP of Quality & Regulatory Affairs and is primarily responsible for assessing and monitoring life safety code (NFPA 101, 99) related issues. Success requires active knowledge and utilization of Life Safety Code and Health Care Facilities Code, effective workflow and workload management, and working knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements with focus on timeliness, thoroughness, and accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or fire safety engineering.
OR Five (5) years of life safety experience.
Experience
Three (3) years’ experience in providing Life Safety Code building assessments in a healthcare setting using NFPA 101.
Three (3) years of experience with NFPA 101 life safety code assessment – Hospital.
Certification: Certified Life Safety Specialist for Health Care (CLSS-HC) through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) through the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct life safety code assessments/building inspections for healthcare buildings using NFPA standards.
Perform audits that include fire safety evaluation systems, Joint Commission's Physical Environment compliance reviews, life safety building maintenance programs, and other requirements as determined by NFPA references.
Ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code and applicable reference manuals.
Provide life safety training to employees.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of life safety and building codes, CMS and contracted‑state regulatory standards, and communicate technical changes across operational areas.
Collaborate with quality and regulatory leadership, CMS, and state regulatory compliance to ensure ongoing compliance.
Identify and resolve problems timely and analyze information skillfully.
Prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.
Adapt quickly to changes in scope or direction.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk long periods and climb step ladder.
Working Environment
Mostly indoors, with occasional noisy, hot or cold areas.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Knowledge of CMS' CoP's and TJC's Life Safety Chapter.
