Job Summary And Qualifications
Knows, understands, and puts into practice general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures. Adheres to all regulatory guidelines. Reviews all posted policy changes as required.
Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider options, and formulate an appropriate course of action. Recognizes and performs duties independently with little or no supervision.
Demonstrates initial and annual competency in all designated lab sections within set deadlines. Accurately performs scheduled tasks. Participates in continuing education activities.
Participates in all mandatory facility/corporate training annually and within set deadlines.
Cooperates in assisting the laboratory team with miscellaneous duties, including specimen receiving and putting away supplies received in the department.
Effectively organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area(s).
Investigates and resolves specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tools when appropriate. Documents action taken and communicates with relevant individuals.
Trains new employees and/or students in lab policies/procedures.
Explains procedures and uses appropriate communication interventions for the age being served.
Implements all policies related to the Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including patient identification and effective communication with other caregivers.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum 3 months of phlebotomy experience or training from an accredited school of phlebotomy.
Preferred: At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience. Specimen handling experience is a plus.
EDUCATION
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent.
Preferred: Phlebotomy training from an approved school or phlebotomy certification.
CERTIFICATION
Preferred: ASCP/ASPT certified phlebotomist or equivalent.
