
Project Design Engineer (Contract / Part-Time)

Role Overview
This is a flexible, project-based engineering role ideal for experienced designers who want to contribute to high-impact product development without full-time commitment. Candidates may specialize in mechanisms or structuralengineering, andwill support specific projects from concept through prototype.High performingindividuals will be considered for future full-time roles as our team grows.
Key Responsibilities
Execute project-based mechanical or structural design work
Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings
Support simulation, prototyping, and testing
Perform structural and mechanical simulations (FEA, motion studies, load analysis)
Drive DFM and DFA with suppliers and manufacturing partners
Collaborate with internal engineering leadership on design direction
Deliver high-quality engineering output on defined timelines
Qualifications
3+years experiencein mechanical or structural design
Strongproficiencyin at least one major 3D CAD platformwith a preference for Autodesk Inventor & Fusion 360
Experience with mechanisms OR structural systems
Strong understanding of DFM and manufacturing processes
Ability to work independently and deliver project-based outcomes
Location & Work Format
In mostcasesthis role can be effectivelyaccomplishedthrough remote work. Candidates with the ability to collaborate regularly onsite at our offices in Grand Rapids, MI will have preference depending on project scope. Access to the Latitude design studio and prototyping workshop will be available to local candidates.
Compensation
Negotiable based on experience& project scope
