Open Rank Professor, tenure track (Nutrigenomics)

Inside Higher Ed, Chapel Hill, NC, United States

Position Summary
The UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) and the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are jointly seeking applicants for up to four tenure‑track faculty positions specializing in the nutrigenetic
utrigenomic causes of metabolic and nutrition variation. The appointments will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor level depending on experience, research, and scholarly accomplishments.

Overview
The Nutrition Research Institute focuses on identifying the mechanisms underlying metabolic and nutritional variability using nutrigenomic and metabolomic methods to explain individual responses to nutrients and diet. Faculty members will research nutrigenetic
utrigenomic drivers of metabolic and nutrition variation, including, but not limited to, nutritionally relevant genetic polymorphisms, copy number variations, epigenetic mechanisms (including non‑coding RNA), microbiome‑gene interactions, and genes modulating circadian rhythms in metabolism. Investigators may use bench or epidemiologic approaches, working in cells, animal models, or humans. This group complements 15 existing faculty who study how people differ in metabolism and nutritional requirements to advance personalized nutrition. A track record of competitive grant funding from the NIH (or equivalent) and relevant peer‑reviewed publications in high‑quality journals is required. The Institute will provide a yearly “hard money” commitment and start‑up funding. Facility resources include state‑of‑the‑art laboratories, an outstanding core animal facility, an outpatient human clinical facility, and shared instrumentation in microscopy, genomics, and metabolomics.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include developing and/or maintaining a high‑quality research program that demonstrates capacity to obtain external funding, teaching duties negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Nutrition, advising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and participation in the Institute and Department service programs.
