Job Overview
Under the direction of the Correctional Plant Manager II, the Correctional Plant Supervisor primarily provides supervision of the institutional maintenance staff, directing them in all phases of proper maintenance and construction practices and safety. The position directly supervises the Chief Engineer I, Supervisor of Building Trades, Supervising Groundskeeper II, Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and Associate Governmental Program Analyst. Additionally, the supervisor serves in the acting capacity of the Correctional Plant Manager II during absences and performs other required duties.
Responsibilities
Direct the work of installing, operating, and maintaining institutional heating, electrical, water, sewage, and other mechanical systems.
Read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications.
Make cost estimates of building repairs, maintenance, and mechanical installations.
Plan and execute a program of preventive maintenance for buildings and mechanical equipment.
Plan and direct the work of skilled craftspersons and semi‑skilled workers.
Keep accurate records and prepare reports.
Think and act quickly in emergencies, maintaining a safety consciousness and resolving safety hazards.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $7,830.00 – $9,738.00 per month. This is a 12‑month limited‑term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Desirable qualifications: knowledge of heating, electrical, plumbing, water, refrigeration, sewage, and other mechanical systems; operation of high‑pressure steam boilers; materials, methods, and tools used in maintenance of buildings and grounds; mechanical refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems; thermostatic temperature control systems; Division of California Occupational Safety and Health rules and orders; personnel management and affirmative action objectives; and manager’s role in the affirmative action program.
Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
