
Dental Assistant Dispensary Central Sterilization Clerk

Job Summary
Support the clinical faculty, dental students, and other clinical support staff in the CDM Clinical Sites including the pre‑clinical simulation laboratory. Prepare, dispense, and maintain dental instruments, supplies and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain infection control protocols.
Preparation, dispensing and maintenance of dental instruments, supplies and equipment for each appointment; clinic material, supply, and instrument inventory control; quality assessment and maintenance of dental instruments.
Assist with regular maintenance of clinical equipment as directed.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Protect patients, employees, and students by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
Sterilization and maintenance of dental instruments, supplies and equipment for each appointment; clinic material, supply, and instrument inventory control; assist with regular maintenance of clinical equipment as directed.
Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs to the equipment manager, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Order and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials for the CMD clinical and pre‑clinical enterprises; enter orders into the University’s system for approval and processing; follow up with the appropriate Manager/Director to ensure order is placed and received in a timely fashion.
Report equipment failures; maintain/record logs related to quality assurance and equipment operations and instrument sterilization.
Participate in required training and mandatory in‑services such as BLS, infection control, and HIPAA. Participate in compliance activities such as clinic audits and infection control audits.
Support the educational mission of CDM, including role‑modeling and teaching students how to function as a dental assistant on the dental team, both in four‑handed chairside activities and in clinic operation support.
Support clinical faculty in teaching students how to function as a dental provider on the dental team.

Required Qualifications
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
One or more years of experience as a dental assistant in a clinic, hospital clinic or dental office.
Must be a Dental Assistant in the State of California.
Current Basic Life Support certification and CA radiation safety certification.
Must have completed or be able to complete within 90 days of hire: a California Dental Board approved course in the Dental Practice Act and a California Board approved course in infection control.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Denti‑Cal regulations.
Possess a dental assistant certificate from an accredited vocational school.
Possess a current RDA license.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge in aseptic infection control and sterilization techniques as they relate to dental practice.
Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills.
Must be able to effectively interact with health care professionals, students, and patients. Bilingual ability helpful.
Proficient with computers, dental technology, electronic health record, printers, calculator, fax machine, copy machine operation, electronic mail, video communications programs and telephone operation.
Continuous abilities in creating a safe, effective environment for patient care, and teamwork.
Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Work Schedule
Usual hours are Monday‑Friday 8am to 5pm with the possibility of an earlier or later start time. Some evenings or weekends may be required.
May be required to travel to CDM clinics including but not limited to CDM sites in Pomona, El Monte, Chino Hills, and Rancho Mirage.
Physical Demands
Frequently required to use hands to operate a PC in the performance of job duties and talk or hear. Regularly required to sit, and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, and smell.
Occasionally required to stand and walk. May need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus, and adequate vision to allow for the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in an environmentally controlled interior healthcare office, laboratory or clinic setting. The noise level is usually moderate. Work may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials, e.g., blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and ionizing radiation. Clinical environments require compliance with safety precautions, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen training, and may include the use of certain personal protective equipment.
