Design Engineer
Storm Search, Tulsa, OK, United States
Job Overview:
A growing industrial solutions provider is seeking a hands‑on Design Engineer to support the design and execution of custom pumping systems and skid‑mounted equipment. This role bridges engineering and manufacturing and is ideal for someone who understands how systems are built—not just how they are designed.
The position works cross‑functionally with sales, project management, and fabrication teams to develop practical, buildable solutions that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Design pump skids, piping layouts, and equipment assemblies
Develop 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings (layouts, spool drawings, BOMs)
Size and select pumps, valves, and related system components
Interpret customer specifications, P&IDs, and contract documents
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, NSF, ASME)
Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure designs are manufacturable
Support projects from concept through production
Assist with troubleshooting, design improvements, and issue resolution
Review submittals and prepare documentation packages
Required Qualifications:
1+ years of experience in mechanical design, piping, or pump systems
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
Strong understanding of fabrication methods (welding, machining, assembly)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with fire pump systems (NFPA 20)
Knowledge of hydraulics and fluid systems
Experience creating P&IDs
Familiarity with ERP systems and bill of materials (BOM) structures
Background in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
