Job Description

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant or Police Lieutenant, a UCSF Police Officer protects life and property and enforces local, state, and federal laws. Officers perform regular law enforcement duties including community policing, foot and vehicle patrol of the University of California and surrounding properties, investigating and preparing preliminary investigation reports, issuing citations, making arrests, assisting in the prosecution of violators of the law, providing crime prevention information, and serving as a proactive resource to a uniquely diverse community. Officers may also work as part of a security detail with civilian and other law enforcement agencies at University events, and perform other duties as assigned. Certified and conforms to the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).
Responsibilities

Provide community policing and patrol (foot and vehicle) of the University of California and surrounding areas.
Investigate incidents and prepare preliminary reports; issue citations and make arrests as required.
Assist in the prosecution of violators and provide crime prevention information.
Serve as a proactive resource to a diverse campus community and coordinate with security and other law enforcement agencies at University events.
Perform other duties as assigned and maintain POST certification and firearms qualifications.
Qualifications

High school graduate.
Basic knowledge in first aid/CPR, campus safety, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, and the use of firearms. New recruits within 1 year of appointment.
Ability to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and record information accurately and completely. New recruits within 1 year of appointment.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community.
Able to pass medical and psychological examinations and a thorough background investigation in compliance with POST standards.
Able to work rotating shifts in various weather conditions and wear a uniform as required.
No felony convictions.
U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship.
At least 21 years old at hire and possess a valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (no restrictions beyond corrective lenses).
Strong English language skills for reporting and information dissemination.
Hold a current POST Basic certificate or have completed the POST RBC; provide proof of eligibility from POST before full employment.
POST SB2/SB960 compliance as noted in California Gov. Code 1029/1031.
Maintain POST firearms and PC 832 arrest qualifications.
If you have passed an academy but did not complete the FTO program, you must have a current Basic POST certificate and status as a lateral candidate.
Licenses and Certifications

Current and valid California driver’s license with no restrictions other than corrective lenses and a satisfactory driving record.
Current POST certification or eligibility for POST RBC completion; maintain POST firearms qualifications.
