Position Summary
North Central College invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach Special Education (SPED) courses within the Department of Education. Adjunct instructors are responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction, assessing student learning, ensuring course content aligns with established standards, evaluating and grading student work, and holding office hours to support student success. Adjunct faculty appointments are made on a course‑by‑course basis. This posting is intended to build a pool of qualified candidates for future teaching opportunities as program needs vary from semester to semester.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. Strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
Description of Key Responsibilities
Plan a comprehensive hybrid online course using prior syllabi and master course outlines that meets course objectives and standards.
Establish relationships with students, cultivating a classroom culture of character conducive to growth and development.
Support the department and College’s mission, vision, and values, and contribute to the advancement of program goals.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and prospective students.
Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work environment and engage in educational opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills—including persuasive and negotiation skills, strong writing, public speaking, interpersonal and public relations skills.
Ability to represent North Central College in a professional manner, recruit and work within a diverse community.
Ability to self‑initiate and execute with minimal supervision.
High‑level leadership, organizational, time‑management, and planning skills.
Qualification Standards
Education/Training: A Master’s degree (doctorate preferred).
Experience: K‑12 special education teaching experience.
License/Certification: Teacher licensure in special education.
