
Professor of Practice in Paralegal Studies

Overview
The Paralegal Studies program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies, a Paralegal Studies major in SoPA’s Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies, all approved by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Paralegals; as well as a Paralegal Studies Minor, which is not ABA-approved. The successful candidate must be qualified to teach undergraduate students in paralegal courses relating to the United States legal system, litigation, legal research and writing, legal ethics, legal technology, and other areas, as needed.
This position follows a 12-month teaching schedule, with responsibilities extending through the summer term. In addition to teaching existing courses in their area(s) of expertise, the successful candidate may be expected to develop undergraduate coursework for remote and online classrooms. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of the Paralegal Studies Program in curriculum development and program oversight.
The starting date for this position is expected to be in August 2026, unless otherwise agreed upon between the University and candidate.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
J.D. degree, earned at an ABA-accredited law school
Licensed to practice law (active or inactive, in good standing) in at least one state
Has never been the subject of a formal disciplinary investigation or proceeding in any jurisdiction where the applicant is or has been licensed to practice law
4-8 years of experience as a practicing attorney, working with paralegals and other members of legal teams in litigation, regulatory, or transactional matters.
5-10 years of teaching experience in post-secondary institutions, including at least 6 years of teaching in online and remote formats
At least 3 years of hands-on experience in the use of learning management systems, preferably Canvas
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to develop and deliver creative, innovative, and rigorous higher education courses
Ability to provide quality academic advisement to working adult students
Ability to work well with individuals of various ages and backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 8 years of experience teaching in higher education
At least 6 years of experience with online and remote teaching
