Transportation Operations Technician II (Job Requisition #54901)

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, assistance with plowing and salting is required, and overtime may be required. The position may also assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Environmental Factors
Duties require the ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather. Employees may be required to work overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies and be reachable by phone. Work is performed with tools and materials commonly used in maintenance work, and normal hazards associated with work on or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and debris from roadside litter are present. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Considerable overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.

OR upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Special Requirements

A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.

An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of the assigned workstation.

Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.

An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.

Non-original probationary employees must obtain a required CDL license prior to the completion of six (6) months of service in the position.
