
Commercial Airports Business Development Lead

Leidos is seeking a Business Development Lead to conduct market research, outreach, develop strategic plans, and deliver on pipeline in the commercial airports sector.
Primary Responsibilities
The Commercial Airports BD Lead is directly responsible for developing and executing a robust qualified pipeline. The position requires high responsibility, customer affinity, outstanding communication, multitasking, prioritizing, and organizational skills. It demands discernment to manage the pipeline against the business area, sector, and corporate strategy; understanding customer gaps and leveraging Leidos IP to fill them; and negotiating for positive outcomes. Extensive industry relationships, understanding of existing programs and teaming environments, and mastery of customer mission facets are critical. The BD lead routinely works on complex problems across disciplines and provides measurable input to new solutions, processes, or standards to achieve pursuit objectives. The ability to communicate at all levels (line to executive) is required.
Basic Qualifications
Ability to work independently and without supervision and achieve revenue growth goals in the Airport/Airline marketspace.
Knowledge of or equivalent experience working with OEMs of Passenger and Baggage Screening Equipment.
Networking skills and experience in the aviation community (FAA, DHS, TSA, Airlines, Airports).
Familiarity with online tools used by the Commercial Aviation market for solicitations.
BA/BS or equivalent experience and 15+ years prior relevant experience or a master’s degree with 13+ years of experience.
Excellent communication skills – demonstrated through written and oral presentations, development of technical papers, volumes, or similar products.
Possess business and technical vision as well as ability to rapidly ingest and understand technical solutions.
Ability to think and act strategically.
Possess analytic, presentation, and problem‑solving skills.
Experience in identifying and qualifying checkpoint and baggage opportunities with emphasis on qualification and shaping.
Proven record of success.
Demonstrated skills in all areas of business development, including opportunity qualification, capture strategy, customer visits and demonstrations, customer relationship development, competitor relationship development, written submissions, and team leadership.
Experience in the development of and successful negotiation of teaming agreements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the Airport Management career track at small, medium, or large hub airports.
Experience or knowledge of current TSA Airport Screening programs and history.
Experience with capital projects in an airport environment, funding sources, and projects involving AIP grants, Airport Bonds, or other generally accepted funding sources.
Experience and a network of Airport and Airline industry contacts, such as direct experience or the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and Airports Council International (ACI).
A.A.E. accreditation is highly desirable.
Experience and understanding of Federal Government Procurement (AIP grants) and commercially funded opportunities.
Prior business development experience in any federal market segment.
Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish solid working relationships with technical staff, line managers, and peers across the corporation.
Pay & Benefits
Pay Range: $154,050 – $278,475. Employment benefits include competitive compensation, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave and retirement.
