
Project Controls Administrator

Position Summary
Thompson Engineering is searching for a Project Controls Administrator to support the Project Management team by maintaining accurate project controls data, assembling weekly and monthly reports, supporting invoices, and ensuring that cost documentation is complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
Temporary assignment with the potential to transition into additional project opportunities based on performance and business needs.
This role is highly focused on organization, data integrity, and cross-functional coordination with project managers, engineering, accounting, and finance teams. The ideal candidate is proactive, takes ownership of responsibilities, and consistently follows through to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update project controls documentation, including cost reports, forecasts, change logs, and supporting files
Support cost control activities, including invoice review, cost coding validation, and budget vs. actual reporting
Ensure consistent file management and version control within shared drives and document systems; maintain templates and standards
Partner with Project Managers and Project Controls teams to identify data gaps, resolve discrepancies, and improve reporting efficiency
Take ownership of assigned deliverables from initiation through completion, ensuring deadlines are met
Adhere to client and company procedures, including confidentiality and audit-readiness requirements
Interact with clients and participate in project meetings
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in project administration, project controls support, cost/schedule support, or a similar coordination role
Strong Excel skills, including filters, pivot tables, and lookups, with the ability to work with large datasets
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow up effectively with multiple stakeholders
Experience maintaining logs, trackers, and standardized reporting packages
Working knowledge of invoicing, timesheets, and per diem processes
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with project controls concepts and best practices
Experience with ERP, procurement, or invoicing systems (e.g., BST) and cost coding structures
Experience supporting engineering, construction, utilities, or industrial projects
Location and Schedule
Location: Atlanta, GA (flexible hybrid schedule)
Remote: Fully remote candidates will be considered, particularly those located in the southeastern United States
Hours: Standard business hours, with occasional extended hours during reporting cycles or critical project milestones
