POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Academic Innovation Implementation (OAII), within the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) at the City University of New York (CUNY), drives university-wide strategic initiatives that enhance CUNY’s academic landscape and operational infrastructure through technology. Based at the Central Office, OAII manages the academic technology portfolio and oversees project delivery across CUNY’s 26 campuses, integrating web and media-based learning technologies into the curriculum to strengthen the instructional experience for faculty and students.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Technology Operations, the Business Analyst will serve as a critical link between business process analysis and technology implementation and will be instrumental in translating stakeholder needs into actionable system requirements and support the transition from manual to automated workflows. The Business Analyst will serve as a key contributor engaging with diverse stakeholder groups, collaborating with academic departments, IT teams, and administrative units to ensure that solutions are aligned with institutional priorities, support regulatory compliance, and advance CUNY’s commitment to operational excellence and student success.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

Engage with academic departments and stakeholders to document and support prioritization of technology needs.

Support end-to-end analyses of existing workflows and systems to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and identify opportunities for actionable initiatives.

Develop and maintain comprehensive business requirement documents, functional specifications, and other project related documentation; document business and functional requirements, develop use cases and user stories to guide solution design and development.

Leverage AI tools, as appropriate and directed, and emerging technologies to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and support data-driven decision-making.

Assist with the coordination and support of user acceptance testing (UAT), including test planning, issue tracking, defect resolution, and sign-off documentation.

Support change management efforts by facilitating working sessions, trainings, and workshops; develop stakeholder communications and drive adoption strategies to build consensus and align priorities around new processes and systems.

Analyze system data and reporting outputs to validate accuracy, identify trends, and prepare reports and summaries for leadership review to drive decision-making; prepare and deliver clear, audience-appropriate reports, presentations, and dashboards that communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Partner with IT, project management, and administrative units to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and institutional policy.

Support compliance with CUNY standards, governance frameworks, and audit requirements through thorough documentation and process transparency.

Support with administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings and reserving meeting spaces, as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

NOTE:

Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred:

Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in business analysis, academic technology, IT project support, or a related discipline within higher education or the public sector.

Demonstrated experience documenting and managing business and functional requirements throughout the project lifecycle, from discovery through implementation.

Proficiency in creating workflow diagrams, and system documentation using industry-standard tools such as Visio or similar applications.

Experience coordinating and/or supporting user acceptance testing (UAT) activities, including developing test plans, managing issue logs, and facilitating defect resolution with technical teams.

Experience working under senior analysts or project managers in a matrixed environment.

Working knowledge of change management frameworks and practical experience supporting end-users and stakeholders through technology transitions.

Strong competency with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI) and the ability to interpret data to evaluate process performance and inform decision-making.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, and presentations with diverse stakeholder groups, including senior leadership, faculty, and technical teams.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language; familiarity with current trends in educational technology, enterprise systems, project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall), and AI tools.

Assists with planning, conducting, and implementing improvements to operational practices and systems aimed at enhancing organizational effectiveness.

-Provides functional project support to areas in transition, collects and analyzes data, and prepares project materials

-Coordinates efforts between departments and between the college/unit and external participants

-Participates in planning implementation tasks, including training

-Performs needs and outcomes assessments as needed

-May provide training and follow-up support

-Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is

$82,663 - $90,838 , commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
