The Pharmacy Resident provides pharmaceutical care to unit specific patients including the establishment of therapeutic endpoints and monitoring parameters.

Responsibilities

Performs all duties associated with the Registered Pharmacist position within the scope of licensure.

Initiates and documents pharmacist interventions to change prescribing where required.

Participates in patient care rounds as appropriate.

Contributes to and participates in the departmental medication use evaluation plan, including but not limited to CMI (Clinical Management Initiatives).

Reviews current medical/pharmacy literature regularly for recent developments in disease state therapeutics and new product development.

Provides health professionals with drug information and/or references.

Prepares periodic newsletters for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists regarding drug therapy and administration.

Provides in‑service education seminars and programs to pharmacy staff and other health care professionals.

Facilitates preparation of Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee material.

Investigates and documents reports of adverse drug reactions; facilitates adverse drug reaction subcommittee meetings.

Completes all required documentation.

Completes a minimal equivalent of 47 weeks of active training to receive residency certificate.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.

Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.

Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies.

Acts as the managing pharmacist while working weekends.

Exercises sound judgement, recognizes and attends to priorities.

Participates in departmental quality assurance activities.

Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.

Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

Bachelor of Science‑prepared candidates will be considered on an individual basis.

Meets the requirements as set forth by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists Residency Accreditation Standards. Familiarity with computers/systems helpful.

Current New York State License and Registration as Pharmacist or eligibility for licensure.

New York State graduates must take Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the NYS licensing exam by June of graduation year; failures must be re‑tested by January of residency year. Out‑of‑state graduates must take Part 1 by June of graduation year and Parts 2 and 3 by January of the residency year.

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,660.85 - $58,660.85 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
