The role is a full‑time, 3 shifts per week, mid‑shift position. Schedule: Monday–Saturday 10:30–22:30; Sunday 11:00–21:00. Two positions are open.
Job Summary: Provides initial contact with patients to evaluate and triage based on the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) algorithm. Triage safely, rapidly, and accurately; direct patients to appropriate care areas, and determine priorities of care.
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency department and fast track, communicates with physicians and advanced practice providers, and works as part of a professional team.
Duties And Responsibilities
First contact with patients checking into the emergency department system.
Quickly assess patient communication and facilitate hand‑off and collaboration among staff.
Use the triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care, assign triage categories, and document initial triage, assessment and interventions.
Initiate initial patient interventions and orders per condition, chief complaint, and coordination with providers.
Perform a head‑to‑toe assessment and focused assessments on patients of all ages, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
Work primarily in the triage position; float to other areas as patient flow and tempo require.
Collect chief complaint and detailed patient history, consult and coordinate with the health care team to plan and evaluate patient care plans.
Assess and reassess pain, apply appropriate pain management techniques, and educate patient and family on pain management.
Monitor hemodynamic status, interpret results, identify dysrhythmias, and treat appropriately.
Perform patient care responsibilities according to standards of care for the patient’s diagnosis and age.
Administer medications correctly based on age and clinical condition, follow the seven medication rights, and reduce medication error risk.
Revise standardized after‑care instructions based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness.
Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, involve them in planning of care, and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
Communicate appropriately and clearly with providers and co‑workers.
Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary; delegate appropriately.
Assist providers with procedures in the emergency department.
Maintain flexibility and organization, function well under stressful situations, hold self and others accountable, admit mistakes, and learn from them.
Maintain good working relationships within and between departments.
Assist supervisor with development, implementation, and evaluation of QI indicators to improve patient outcomes and work environment.
