About The Job – Your Role
As a Radiologist Technologist, you will perform diagnostic radiology procedures in accordance with practitioner’s orders and within limits of licensure; in addition, you will assist in the health care and laboratory areas when needed.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements operational procedures for the department’s facilities in accordance with Board of Radiology rules and community standards. Maintains current knowledge of proper techniques and procedures, as related to radiography and developing films. Attends continuing education programs and professional affiliations, required for maintenance of licensure.

Performs diagnostic radiology procedures in accordance with practitioner orders and within limits of licensure. Continually monitors the quality of services performed through a quality assurance program and by working with consultants and the practitioner.

Maintains accurate, concise records of all department x‑ray activities and required statistical data. Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of patient x‑rays and reports by keeping a current and accurate filing system by filing, reviewing, and pulling information as necessary.

Consults with practitioners regarding questions or specific patient problems. Provides services at a variety of facilities. Schedules activities through the Nurse Manager, Outpatient Services, or Support Services Supervisor.

Complies with all rules and regulations regarding personal radiation exposure for self or other staff members.

Reviews quality of services with community consultant as necessary. Provides emergency services as necessary outside of normal work schedule as directed by supervisor.

Performs mathematical calculation and formulates technique chart to obtain proper exposure during radiographic examination.

Provides patient teaching and assists patient in obtaining proper position to perform x‑ray examination.

Assists with budget preparation; provides input to develop and propose service alternatives such as expansion of level of service or improve the quality of service.

Performs work according to guidelines and procedures for maintenance of a secure environment in the correctional setting.

Minimum Qualifications
Certification as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry for Radiological Technologists and a valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging at the time of appointment OR other authorization issued by the Board of Medical Imaging to practice diagnostic radiologic technology in the following categories: head, upper extremities, lower extremities, chest and ribs, abdomen and spine.

General Knowledge

Techniques and procedures of radiography

Proper positioning and shielding of patients to obtain needed x‑ray results

Anatomy and physiology as it relates to radiography

Care, operation maintenance, and repair of radiographic equipment

Procedures and materials used in developing radiographic films

Phlebotomy and proper sample collection and labeling

Math for equipment exposure calculations

Radiation safety, rules, and regulations

Formulation of technique charts

Infection control and sterile techniques

Requested Skills

Caring for and operating radiographic equipment

Communicating with patients and gaining cooperation

Positioning patients to radiograph the required portion of the body

Maintaining patient records in all formats

The use of computer software for word processing, email, and computer navigation

Working Conditions

Requires working independently with little or no supervision

Requires contact with adults in custody, who may become violent, in a prison setting

Requires walking or standing for long periods

Requires climbing stairs

May require limited exertion resulting from patient care

Are exposed to chemicals, radiation, communicable diseases, or other hazards inherent in a health care and correctional setting

May require occasional local or in‑state travel for training or meetings

Salary Range
$5,483 – $6,578 per month (non‑PERS qualifying applicants). PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

The Oregon Department of Corrections is responsible for overseeing adult prisoners and parole programs throughout Oregon.
