Position Summary
Machine Operator at Steelworks is responsible for cutting part members for steel packages per nest lists that specify material types, thicknesses, and lengths. After cutting, parts are stacked on pallets for order pulling. Once trained, operators are expected to operate additional shop machines. During downtime, operators may be assigned other shop tasks.
Requirements
Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
Ability to identify various types and sizes of materials.
Must learn how to read a “Steel book” and interpret specifications.
Essential Functions
Operate multiple forklift types – sit‑down and combi‑lift.
Listen to and prioritize several projects simultaneously.
Maintain own personal hand tools (list provided).
Learn and operate all shop machinery.
Proficiency with an overhead crane.
Minimum Requirements
Team player with solid communication skills.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).
Problem‑solving skills.
Observe company safety policy while working.
Qualifiers
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb and crawl over and under fabricated materials.
Work extensive hours in a semi‑controlled and non‑climate environment.
Physical ability to lift, push and carry up to 50 pounds.
