Job Summary
We are seeking a full‑time, 40‑hour Medical Assistant to support our growing Vascular Surgery practice Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Primary location: 10 Members Way, Dover, NH, with occasional cross‑coverage at the Portsmouth, NH practice (67 Corporate Drive).
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in both direct patient care and administrative support for patients with vascular wounds, post‑operative amputations, peripheral vascular disease, and complex surgical follow‑up needs. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting patient information, assisting with dressing changes, wound care management, supporting post‑operative recovery plans, providing patient education, and working closely with surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other clinical team members.
Essential Functions
Assist junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day questions and responsibilities and help facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer‑service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
Provide immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required ; Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred. Experience in lieu of a degree not accepted.
Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS Certification) – preferred; Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) – preferred.
Experience: Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Managing one's own time and the time of others.
Additional Job Details
Strongly preferred qualifications include prior experience with EPIC, surgical care settings, specialty clinical areas, and ambulatory care experience. Strong communication and organization are essential to ensure timely access to care and coordination between patients, providers, and the broader care team.
