Position
Full‑time, 40‑hour Medical Assistant to support the growing Vascular Surgery practice at Wentworth‑Douglas Hospital, Dover, NH, with occasional cross‑coverage at Portsmouth, NH.

Job Summary
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in direct patient care and administrative support for patients primarily with vascular wounds, post‑operative amputations, peripheral vascular disease, and complex surgical follow‑up. Clinical responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting patient information, assisting with dressing changes, wound care management, and supporting post‑operative recovery plans. The role also involves patient education, scheduling, and coordination with surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other clinical team members.

Essential Functions

Assist junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day questions and facilitate their learning through onboarding training.

Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight and height, and record data in the medical record.

Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients; organize educational materials.

Perform general office duties, including answering phones, taking dictation, completing insurance forms, and acting as a liaison with other departments.

Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.

Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates; provide immunizations where applicable.

Participate in departmental quality initiatives such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.

Licenses and Credentials

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

Certified Medical Assistant (National certification) preferred.

Experience
Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.

Accuracy and attention to detail.

Compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.

Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples.

Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.

Proficiency in EHR systems and medical office software.

Logical reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.

Time‑management for oneself and others.

Additional Qualifications

Strong communication and organization skills for timely access to care and coordination.

Prior experience with EPIC, surgical care settings, specialty clinical areas, and ambulatory care.
