Position Details
Position: Patient Care Tech (PCT)
Department: ED
Shift: Part‑Time | Days | 24 hours per week
Department Overview
26 bed unit – provides excellent care to our community 24/7. Nurse to patient ratio is generally 1:4. The staff includes patient care technicians, paramedics, and patient support associates.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of an RN or LPN, the Patient Care Tech provides hands‑on care and support to patients, helping them achieve their highest level of wellness and comfort.
Responsibilities
Phlebotomy and blood cultures
Enteral feedings
Wound care
IV/Foley removal
Tracheostomy care and suctioning
Training & Development
The PCA/PCT Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship offering comprehensive, hands‑on experience in a supportive learning environment. If no prior experience, Mercy provides a 175‑hour training program to be completed within 90 days of hire.
BLS Certification: Required within 1 month of hire
Competencies: Completed within 3 months of hire
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
CNA/CPTC certification, enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school, or current Mercy caregiver preferred
Experience
No prior experience required – we will train you!
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting
Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist and squat to perform duties
Preferred
EMT, Paramedic, Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) in state of practice.
