Position Details
Position: Patient Care Tech (PCT)
Department: ED
Shift: Full Time | Nights | 36 hours per week
Night Shift Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000
Department Overview
26‑bed unit that provides excellent care to our community 24/7. Nurse‑to‑patient ratio is generally 1:4 for nurses. Patient care technicians, paramedics, and patient support associates form part of the care team.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of an RN or LPN, the PCT provides hands‑on care and support to patients, helping them achieve their highest level of wellness and comfort. The role also includes PCA duties and a variety of clinical and non‑clinical support tasks essential to patient care.
Responsibilities
Perform phlebotomy and blood cultures.
Administer enteral feedings.
Provide wound care.
Remove IV and Foley catheters.
Care for and suction tracheostomies.
Training & Development
The PCA/PCT Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship that offers comprehensive, hands‑on experience in a supportive learning environment.
MERCY provides a 175‑hour training program (meeting Department of Health and Senior Services standards) to be completed within 90 days of hire for candidates with no prior experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within one month of hire.
Competencies to be completed within three months of hire.
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
CNA/CPTC certification, enrollment in a healthcare career program during high school, or current Mercy caregiver preferred.
Experience
No prior experience required; training will be provided.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting.
Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
Preferred
EMT, Paramedic, Nursing Assistant, Advanced Unlicensed Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT).
