Charge Nurse – LTAC Unit
Texas NeuroRehab Center is seeking a licensed registered nurse to serve as Charge Nurse for its LTAC unit. The role involves both clinical and administrative duties, supporting the Director of Nursing in providing high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Nursing with administrative and clinical responsibility for nursing services on the LTAC unit.

Supervise and provide direct patient care, nursing management, assessment, and crisis management.

Provide leadership and effective role modeling for unit staff.

Ensure environmental safety and effective crisis management for the patient population.

Make patient and task assignments to nursing staff and monitor the performance of duties.

Oversee new employee orientation to the unit for PRN, float, and agency staff.

Provide training and education to staff, patients, and families.

Document and oversee nursing documentation of patient care.

Ensure administrative data (admissions, discharges, shift census reports, patient transportation) is accurate and complete.

Supervise all staff assigned to the shift.

Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of rehabilitation, medical/surgical, and brain‑injury nursing.

Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions.

Knowledge of milieu management.

Ability to administer medication accurately and monitor side effects.

Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.

Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical‑record documentation.

Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Understanding of management principles.

Ability to evaluate other staff using the criteria in their job description.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Current Driver’s License or state‑issued ID.

Current Texas Registered Nurse license.

Current CPR certification.

CRRN or RN, C preferred.

Experience

One year of inpatient rehabilitation, medical‑surgical, or brain‑injury experience preferred.

One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision.

Experience evaluating staff against job‑description criteria preferred.

Physical/General Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance.

Ability to push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills and handle running patients.

Ability to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilets, and vehicles.

Verbal skills to deescalate crisis situations.

Ability to physically restrain patients per policy.

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

Excellent written communication, legibility, and grammar for patient charting.

Computer proficiency.

Adequate hearing, vision, and emotional stability for job functions.

Effective use of the phone for extended periods.
