Job Summary
Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all types of vehicles and heavy equipment, including police and fire apparatus.
Typical Duties
Weld with electric or acetylene rigs.
Repair and replace brake and steering systems.
Repair/replace all types of engines, gasoline or diesel.
Repair/replace transmissions, automatic or standards.
Repair/replace alternators, starters, generators, and air compressors on trucks, vehicles, and equipment (heavy and small).
Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems.
Perform all types of preventive maintenance on vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
Repair/replace cooling components including air conditioners and engine cooling.
Maintain clean and safe work area.
Maintain and keep up with all tools and equipment.
Produce legible and accurate reports reflecting work performed.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Texas Commercial Driver’s License. Class or Class B or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
3 years’ experience required with any certification in automotive industry.
Ability to obtain additional training credentials if required.
Knowledge of mechanics’ tools including, but not limited to power and hand tools, jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to deal effectively with supervisors, subordinates, and the public.
Working Conditions
This position primarily involves working in a field environment. Will be working around heavy construction equipment. May be exposed to odors and fumes while working with chemicals. May be exposed to adverse/inclement weather conditions while working outside. May work variable hours and or weekends.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to bend, climb, and squat to perform duties. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have dexterity with fingers and hands to operate hand tools and small equipment. Must maintain physical condition necessary for walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely. Must be able to safely handle power and hand tools, jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and diagnostic equipment.
