Job Summary And Qualifications
Provides direct patient care to infant through geriatric patient. Addresses the physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with surgeon continuously as needed about the patient’s condition. Assist surgeon during operative and invasive procedures providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant performs these functions during the procedure under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. Participates in performance improvement activities.
What You Will Do In This Role
You will assist the Operating Room Surgeons and staff to assure a safe and therapeutic environment for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.
You will communicate with surgeon continuously as needed about the patient’s condition and assist surgeon during operative and invasive procedures.
You will assist circulator and anesthesia provider in preparation of the patient/OR Suite to include but not limited to Foley catheter placement; tourniquet application; cricoid pressure application; gathering needed supplies/equipment for the procedure; other procedures as needed.
You will have accountability for delivering quality patient care and for promoting a positive image of the department.
You will demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, and serve as a resource to the Surgical Services team.
What Qualifications You Will Need
Completion of a Surgical Technologist certification program required from an accredited educational institution, and completion of the Surgical Assisting Certification Exam.
Certification as Certified Surgical Technologist required.
Certification as a Surgical First Assist required.
2 years’ experience as Certified Surgical Technologist required.
1 year experience as a Surgical First Assist Required
Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
