Medical Director Correctional Medicine (Locum to Perm)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly dedicated and experienced Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Medical Director to lead our Correctional Health Services. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive medical leadership and oversight for all Correctional Health Services, ensuring delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care within the correctional facility.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including behavioral health providers, nursing leadership, and external agencies such as law enforcement and hospitals, to facilitate integrated and seamless patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols for adult and women's health, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Oversee clinical operations, including managing workflows and implementing quality improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Supervise and evaluate physician staff, advanced practice providers, and nursing personnel, fostering a culture of excellence and professional growth.
  • Serve as the supervising physician for advanced practice providers, providing mentorship and ensuring compliance with legal and clinical standards.
  • Provide training and educational opportunities for residents, students, and healthcare staff within the correctional setting.
  • Act as a key liaison among correctional staff, healthcare teams, hospital partners, and community resources to promote effective communication and collaboration.
  • Stay informed of relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards impacting correctional health to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead efforts in policy development, staff orientation, health education programs, and health promotion initiatives tailored to incarcerated populations.
  • Oversee performance improvement strategies, including data analysis and process enhancement, through active engagement with quality management teams.
  • Participate in physician recruitment, retention, and development initiatives to build a highly competent and motivated correctional health team.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medical advancements and incorporate evidence-based practices into quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate a patient-centered approach by emphasizing respectful communication, cultural competence, and holistic care.
  • Actively work to address social determinants impacting health outcomes, including mental health, substance use, and chronic disease management.

Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with successful board certification or eligibility in a relevant specialty.
  • Current licensure and certification in good standing.
  • Extensive experience in correctional medicine or a similarly challenging environment preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of managing clinical teams, implementing quality improvement, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop positive working relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and equity.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
