Registered Nurse
Salary: $50.48-$52.08 per hour

The Role
Under general direction, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care, as assigned, to agency clients in accordance with agency policies and procedures and current standards of Nursing Practice. Completes assigned duties and documents in the medical record in accordance with medical record policies and procedures. This work supports the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
Responsibilities
Assesses health status of clients and develops a plan of care.
Performs and documents Nursing Intake/Medical History in accordance with policy and procedure.
Triages sick call list as assigned and makes referrals for treatment to appropriate medical practitioner.
Completes follow-up assessment of clients treated for chronic and/or acute illnesses to monitor treatment effectiveness.
Screens clients for TB by administering PPD and assessing the reaction.
Monitors lab values and reports abnormalities to the attending physician or physician’s assistant.
Reviews medical records to assess care and ensure continuity of care.
Reviews medical records of clients to be transferred to identify problems and follow-up needs.
Executes orders for prescribed treatments and diagnostic testing.
Draws blood and collects other specimens for laboratory tests ordered by the physician or physician’s assistant.
Monitors vital signs and performs physical examinations as indicated.
Develops a plan of care for nursing care in accordance with standards of practice.
Documents medication doses on the medication administration record in accordance with policies.
Maintains flow sheets for diabetics on insulin therapy.
Changes dressings and provides other treatments prescribed by a physician within Nursing Practice standards.
Documents assessments, interventions and responses in progress notes.
Administers and documents medications prescribed to agency clients.
Prepares medication doses for direct administration during clinic hours.
Maintains integrity and completeness of medical records per policy.
Files feedback consult sheets in medical records after review with the client and/or attending physician.
Ensures laboratory reports are noted and filed in the medical record.
Dates and signs notes in chronological order per policy.
Ensures confidentiality of medical records by obtaining appropriate consents for release of information.
Packages doses of medication for self-administration when the clinic is closed or for clients who self-medicate per policy.
Obtains orders for treatments and diagnostic tests, and completes appropriate forms with date, time and signature.
Provides patient education on diet, exercise, medications and treatments ordered.
Coordinates and monitors care provided by referral specialists.
Maintains a professional image and effective communication with staff, clients and peers.
Transcribes medication orders to the medication administration record and coordinates with the pharmacy.
Works as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities and adapt to workload changes.
Takes vital signs as ordered for hypertensive clients and documents results.
Maintains inventories of stock items and orders supplies as needed.
Maintains narcotic records as required by regulatory agencies.
Reviews medication orders and obtains renewals or discontinuations per policy.
Communicates health status to treating physicians and the nursing supervisor promptly.
Maintains composure under stressful conditions and cooperates with medical staff and administration to provide quality care.
Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (or equivalent).
NYS RN licensure.
BLS certification.
1-3 years of RN experience, preferably with substance use and/or mental health population.
Flexible schedule availability as needed.
Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
Ability to work under pressure and multi-task with strong organizational skills.
Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Team player with ability to work independently.
