Locums - Ketchikan, Alaska Hospitalist Opportunity

Clinical RoleProvide inpatient hospitalist coverage in a critical access hospital setting, managing both medical/surgical and ICU patients. This role offers independent practice with full-spectrum responsibilities in a low-volume environment.

Start Date: May 21, 2026 (expected)Assignment Length: 6 months

Position Highlights:
  • Independent hospitalist role (working solo)
  • Manage both med/surg and ICU patients
  • Low patient volume ( 10 patients per day)
  • Critical access hospital with 25 beds
  • Opportunity to utilize a broad skillset in internal medicine
Schedule & Coverage
  • FTE: 0.10
  • 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Typical schedule: 3-day blocks of 12-hour shifts
  • Variable day and night coverage
Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Setting: Inpatient Hospital

Patient Population: Adult (18+)

Patient Volume: 10 patients per day

Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing inpatient rounding and admissions
  • Providing ICU care including admissions and rounding
  • Managing both medical/surgical and ICU patients
  • Consulting on pediatric patients as needed (no ongoing management)
  • Practicing independently without on-site support
Procedures

Preferred:

  • Ventilator management
  • Intubation
  • Central line placement
Support & Technology

  • 25-bed hospital
  • Critical access setting

Technology:

  • EMR: Epic
Requirements
  • Board Certified - required
  • Active Alaska license - required
  • Alaska DEA - required
  • BLS and ACLS - required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience - required
  • Case logs demonstrating recent internal medicine or family medicine experience (past 24 months; waived for recent graduates)
