Major Responsibilities
Assists in the development of the budget for the area managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
Provides leadership and direction to the Phlebotomy team and must be competent in all aspects of blood draws for all age groups.
Assists in the development and maintenance of established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
Demonstrates use and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives in daily operations.
May be responsible for the efficient processing of samples such as receiving, entry, and accurate tests send outs to the appropriate labs.
May ensure laboratory testing and billing is accurate and compliant with regulatory requirements.
May perform billing audits regularly in support of corporate initiatives.
Standard Supervisor Level Responsibilities
Supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications
Required
Equivalent to a high school graduate.
Basic Life Support Certification (can be obtained within 3 months of hire).
Preferred
ASCP Certified (American Society for Clinical Pathologists).
Experience / Skill
Required
5 years of phlebotomy experience.
Demonstrated leadership ability, ability to motivate others, problem solving, excellent verbal & written communication skills, effective listening skills, experience in scheduling, training & performance oversight, implements procedure changes, an understanding of regulatory requirements.
Excellent time‑management skills.
Working knowledge of basic office software, LIS and/or HIS computer systems.
May be required to travel/work at other sites; Univ, Mem, Hahn, etc.
Preferred
Supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience (quality projects, lean efforts).
Additional Responsibilities
Covering the Memorial Campus when that supervisor is sick or on vacation.
