Bookkeeper

Terms of Employment: 12 months (235 days/8 hours per day)
Qualifications:
Associates degree preferred but not required
Alabama public school experience preferred but not required
Strong accounting/bookkeeping background with experience and/or formal training in computerized accounting
Experience with MCAI Budgetary Accounting System preferred but not required
Experience with PowerSchool Student Software preferred but not required
Database and spreadsheet skills preferred but not required
Effective human relation skills
Professionalism, dedication and flexibility
Previous experience preferred but not required
Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform secretarial duties as assigned by the principal
Perform bookkeeper duties as outlined by the Opelika City Schools Accounting Department:
Record school financial transactions on computerized accounting system
Receipt and deposit all school funds on a timely basis
Prepare requisitions for purchases by the central office
Reconcile monthly bank statements and financial reports
Assist in preparing and monitoring budget
Prepare payroll and related reports as required
Issue purchase orders, check invoices, prepare checks, classify and record daily receipts and disbursements
Deposit money collected at the school
File correspondence and other records
PowerSchool data entry in the absence of the Data Clerk
Maintain an orderly work environment
Maintain good rapport with personnel, children and parents, while maintaining an elevated level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
Participate in in-service training programs
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by administrators
