Summer Park Maintenance Worker
Job Description
The City of Johnston seeks Summer Park Maintenance Worker to perform diverse tasks associated with the maintenance of city parks, trails, cemeteries and city park facilities. This could include landscape beds and tree care. This position may be asked to help at special events throughout the summer months. This position reports to the Parks Crew Leader or designee. Position will include weekend responsibilities of trash, watering and facility cleaning.
Responsibilities
Clean and maintain park equipment, buildings, grounds and city facilities
Responsible for weekend trash and shelter cleaning as needed
Mow, weed trim, rake, mulch, seed and water park grounds.
Maintain landscaped areas; pull weeds, plant landscapes, water landscape beds and trees, prune trees and shrubs and other duties as assigned
Assist with special events as needed
Pick-up and haul trash from park grounds to keep the parks clean and safe
Perform general maintenance/repairs/cleaning of shelters, restrooms, picnic tables, benches, and other city facilities
Assist with general maintenance of city playground equipment i.e. clean, rake mulch and trash clean-up
Operate light and medium duty trucks with trailers, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers, chainsaws, chipper and other hand tools as used in assigned work.
Maintenance and cleaning of above mentioned equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by crew leader
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old Must have a valid Iowa Driver's License Drug Screen and Background check required
Work Conditions
Position requires work to be performed in various outdoor environmental conditions Steel Toed shoes are required but not provided Wear all supplied safety clothing and safety devices Hours and work schedule: Up to 40 hrs per week. Possible over-time M-F 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Weekends as needed Flexible start date and ending date
