We are seeking a highly qualified

Numerical Ion Physicist

at our Broomfield, CO location (remote work possible) to apply expertise in quantum computing R&D. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with ion transport in surface ion traps and a broad understanding of ion‑based quantum computing methods and techniques. In this role, you will develop concepts, create numerical models, and work with experimental teams to advance ion transport and other aspects of quantum computing.

Key Responsibilities

Develop concepts and numerical models to address critical drivers of scaling ion‑based quantum computers, including ion transport, ion trap design, and high‑fidelity quantum gates.

Work with experimental teams and review scientific results to implement improved processes and identify areas for further investigation.

Perform trade studies and analysis.

Present scientific results at conferences or in publications.

Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets to deliver as part of a broader company strategy.

Ensure compliance with safety‑sensitive position requirements, including pre‑employment drug testing.

Qualifications

PhD completed prior to starting.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience (PhD inclusive) involving ion transport, numerical modeling, quantum computing, experimental control system development, quantum information, atomic physics, electronics design, ion trap design, or ion trap fabrication.

Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or workers granted asylum or refugee status).

Must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Experience

12+ years of scientific research, engineering, or leadership experience.

Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Experience with ion transport in surface traps, trapping of ions or neutral atoms, cryogenic systems, and ultra‑high vacuum systems.

Excellent written and oral communication skills with published results.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary $192,000 – $240,000 annually.

Incentive‑eligible range includes bonus target when applicable.
