The General Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to adult and pediatric patients in a community health center setting. This position requires a minimum of two years of clinical experience and the ability to practice independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, mission-driven, and comfortable managing a full patient schedule while supporting the goals of a safety-net dental program.
Key Responsibilities Clinical CarePerform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning
Deliver a full scope of general dentistry services, including:
Preventive care (exams, fluoride, sealants)
Restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns)
Simple and surgical extractions
Endodontic and limited prosthodontic procedures, as appropriate
Manage dental emergencies and urgent care visits independently
Provide high-quality, evidence-based care in accordance with FQHC and regulatory standards
Manage patient care and clinical decision-making with minimal supervision
Maintain productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced community health setting
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to dental assistants and hygienists as appropriate
Educate patients on oral health, treatment options, and preventive care
Deliver care in a compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive manner
Foster patient trust and long-term engagement in oral healthcare
Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR)
Comply with HRSA, OSHA, CDC, and Connecticut Dental Practice Act requirements
Follow infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and peer review activities
DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in general dentistry
Current or eligible Connecticut dental license
DEA registration (or eligibility)
CPR/BLS certification
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a clinical setting
Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting
Experience treating Medicaid and uninsured populations
Familiarity with electronic dental records
Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred)
