Specialized Recruiting Group is seeking an Assistant Plant Manager for a confidential opportunity with a telecommunications provider in Northeast Iowa.
This role supports fiber construction, outside plant operations, and network expansion initiatives, working closely with the Plant Manager to ensure reliable delivery of broadband, voice, and video services.
The Assistant Plant Manager will contribute to fiber network expansion and daily plant operations, helping coordinate field activities, contractors, and project timelines from planning through service activation. This role works cross-functionally to support network reliability, safety, and overall operational performance.
Responsibilities
Support planning and execution of fiber construction and network expansion projects
Coordinate field crews and contractors for installations, maintenance, and outages
Assist with fiber placement, splicing, testing, and service activation
Monitor network performance and help troubleshoot service issues
Maintain fiber maps, documentation, and plant records
Support permitting, budgeting, materials, and contractor management
Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations
Serve as backup to the Plant Manager as needed
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in fiber optic construction, outside plant, or telecom operations
Knowledge of FTTH/FTTP, broadband, and VoIP systems
Ability to read construction prints, fiber maps, and technical schematics
Experience coordinating crews or managing projects preferred
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
Comfortable working in a hands-on, field-based environment
