Social Work: Support Supervisor, New Country Day Camp
Educational Alliance, New York, NY, United States
Social Work Support Supervisor
Support Supervisors play a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising our disability‑inclusive model that provides extra support to campers with additional social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs (including ASD, ADD/ADHD, mood or anxiety disorders, sensory processing issues, etc.). These supervisors ensure all campers can experience the joy of camp in the most inclusive, least restrictive environment possible. They will work part time during pre‑camp (April–June) and transition to full‑time during the camp program (June–August).
Responsibilities
Camper Care
Work directly with families, supervisor, and NCDC leadership to create Individualized Camper Plans (ICPs) for campers who require additional support.
Begin in April, conduct virtual and/or in‑person intakes with new NCDC camp families and their camper(s).
Update ICPs for returning campers on the specified caseload.
Train supervisees (Support Specialists) on using and implementing ICPs for camper success.
Observe and check‑in with Support Specialists and individual campers as needed throughout the day.
Be available for crisis management for all NCDC campers throughout the camp season.
Utilize a disability‑inclusion and trauma‑informed care lens for all aspects of camper experience (e.g., assessing activities and providing necessary support to ensure a camper’s success).
Logistics and Communications
Attend pre‑camp meetings with families and/or staff as needed.
Communicate with parents as needed throughout the camp season, including being available via phone and email until 6:30 pm nightly.
Compose and send families individual camper highlights (Rose Communications) weekly.
Partner effectively with Division Supervisors, Aquatics Staff, and Program staff regarding camper needs and concerns.
Ensure that all campers who benefit from additional support have plans in place to support them on the bus ride to/from camp.
Leadership and Staff Supervision
Model professional behavior for campers and other staff at all times as a member of the NCDC Head Staff.
Be present at all days of orientation, camp, and staff meetings during the camp season.
Proactively problem‑solve and motivate colleagues, encouraging flexibility and understanding to achieve common goals.
Train, observe, and evaluate a staff of 3–6 Support Specialists, who are assigned 2–3 campers that require additional support and are fully briefed on the ICPs for campers in their group.
Establish and promote a commitment to the mission and vision of NCDC.
Learn and implement NCDC’s restorative approach to supervision and behavior management, including regular check‑ins and evaluations for supervisees.
Partner respectfully with the Division Supervisor on crisis management using a restorative approach, working to provide the proper supports for campers within the division.
