Overview
Paramedic, Full Time Days – Piedmont Eastside Medical Center, Emergency Dept
We are looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged individuals who are excited for growth to join our team.
38-bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day with varying acuities.
Primary Stroke and STEMI receiving facility able to intervene and administer thrombolytics.
Two helicopter pads on campus for utilization.
Five PODs in the department, assigned based on patient acuity (including Behavioral Health Pod).
Collaborative environment with ED Providers including Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians and Unit Secretaries.
All staff must have BLS; RNs must have ACLS and PALS; NIHSS highly preferred and must be obtained within allotted timeframe.
Responsibilities
The Paramedic, under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician, is responsible for delivering age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health care services and tasks. The Paramedic Nurse Extender also includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and oversight of unlicensed personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain working knowledge of medications (IM, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, IV, IV push), including effects, side effects, drug interactions, and anaphylaxis protocol; working knowledge of venous blood sampling and cardiac monitor use.
Knowledge of body systems: neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and trauma assessment.
Provide safe patient care with strong customer service and ability to work in a team; assess patient needs and respond to direction from RN/Physician.
Perform EKGs
Perform Foley catheter placements
Start IVs, IOs and draw blood
Transport patients to other departments
Monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms or changes to Charge Nurse/Nurse as required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication; ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required
Work Experience: 1 year of experience as a Paramedic preferred
Licenses and Certifications: Current Paramedic certification in the State of Georgia; National Registry preferred; BLS Certification required
Additional Licenses and Certifications: ALS/ACLS and PALS (new paramedics must obtain applicable certifications within 6 months of start date); experienced ED paramedics will have 6 months to obtain PALS
