Piedmont Eastside Medical Center - Emergency Dept
We are looking for positive, self‑motivated, engaged and excited for growth individuals to join our team
38 bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day presenting with various acuities
Primary Stroke and STEMI receiving facility that can intervene and administer thrombolytics
Two helicopter pads on campus for utilization
We have 5 PODs in our department, depending on acuity, patients are assigned to a POD
Behavioral Health Pod
Staff includes charge nurses, ED flow coordinators, paramedics, ED techs, PCTs, mental health technicians and unit secretaries working closely with ED providers to provide exceptional care
All staff members must have BLS. RNs must have ACLS and PALS. NIH highly preferred, to be obtained within allotted timeframe
Responsibilities
The Paramedic, under the supervision of the professional registered nurse and/or physician, is responsible for facilitating age‑appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health‑care delivery and task. The role also includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and oversight of unlicensed personnel.
Work knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizer, intravenous, and intravenous push medications—effects, side effects, drug‑to‑drug interactions, and anaphylaxis protocol
Working knowledge of venous blood sampling and cardiac monitor use
Understand body systems (neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal) and primary/secondary trauma assessment
Strong customer service, interpersonal skills, team collaboration, and safe patient care with cultural awareness
Perform EKGs
Perform Foley catheters
Start IVs, IOs, and draw blood
Transport patients to other departments
Monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormalities immediately to charge nurse and physician
Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities including effective verbal and written communication, handling multiple priorities, teamwork, and Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
One year of experience as a paramedic preferred
Current certification as a paramedic in Georgia; national registry preferred
BLS certification required
ALS/ACLS and PALS required (new paramedics to obtain within 6 months of start; experienced ED paramedics to obtain PALS within 6 months)
