
Pretreatment Coordinator

Position Purpose
Under the general direction of the Pretreatment Department Manager, maintains accurate Industrial User information by permitting, inspecting, evaluating, and monitoring. May coordinate the activities of the Pretreatment Specialists and may be required to perform all the duties of a Pretreatment Specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Set up automatic sampling devices or dip sample container to gather samples from interceptors, pipeline, tanks, or other vessels to test tubes, bottles, or other sampling containers.
Label sample containers with identifying data, location of sample, and time collected.
Complete all necessary sample documents such as Chain of Custody forms, interceptor logs and charts, etc.
Deliver samples to laboratory for analysis.
Clean sample containers, assigned vehicle, and sampling equipment.
Assist in interpretation and recording of interceptor results to ensure that flow data is accurate and verifiable.
Assist other Coordinators and Specialists with routine assignments such as POR reports, HSS reports, Grease Trap reports, etc.
Assist other Coordinators and Specialists with surveys, inspections, permit writing, public education, special projects and emergencies (involving hazardous substances).
Interpret all aspects of analytical results and self‑monitoring results to determine compliance with pretreatment regulations.
After review of Central Valley's Pretreatment Program and Federal pretreatment regulations, and in consultation with the Pretreatment Manager, initiate and prepare appropriate Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permits for industrial users.
Manage, coordinate and schedule industrial user's inspections for their assigned areas.
Coordinate pretreatment activities with the appropriate Member Entity.
Initiate and recommend enforcement action against industrial users or others that violate pretreatment regulations.
Advise and make recommendations to the Pretreatment Manager on pretreatment activities in assigned area.
Other duties as assigned by the Pretreatment Manager.
Qualifications Requirements / Skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Basic computer skills to include data entry and Windows applications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Possess Utah driver's license and a good DMV record.
Education and/or Experience
High school Diploma or general education degree (GED).
Two‑year Associate's degree, (Bachelor's degree preferred).
College coursework in chemistry, biology, and environmental science or related scientific area of study.
Collection IV Certification from the State of Utah.
Two years as a Pretreatment Specialist IV, or equivalent level of pretreatment education and experience.
Must pass the Wastewater Treatment Operator II certification test within four years of start date.
State certification requirements must be met to continue employment with CVWRF.
