
Medical Assistant Lead - OB/GYN Clinic (Hazel Crest)

About the Practice
Our main location is in the Medical Office Center at 17850 S Kedzie Ave., Suite 3100, in Hazel Crest, IL, with additional locations in Orland Park, South Holland, and Frankfort, IL. The practice includes seven providers: four OB/GYN physicians, one gynecologist, two Advanced Practice Nurses, and a dedicated social worker. Comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care is provided to women of all ages. Office procedures include colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, LEEP, and hysteroscopy.
Major Responsibilities
Provides clinical coverage as needed by patient volume or workflow.
Assists in direct patient care activities, which could include office procedures, triage, etc.
Assists with indirect patient activities, which could include incoming calls, scheduling appointments, ordering tests, etc.
Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and external customers by sharing necessary information to ensure continuity of care.
Maintains productivity levels as outlined in departmental standards and goals.
Ensures high flexibility of staff to minimize downtime and allow for job rotation while maintaining effective work balance in the team.
Coordinates staffing schedule and addresses staffing issues, providing coverage when warranted.
Carries out process and 6S audits to confirm maintenance of standard work.
Actively seeks to drive waste out of the process.
Ensures visual management is maintained and shares feedback with team members regularly.
Engages and encourages associates while executing process improvement initiatives.
Manages direct reports’ orientation, training, and performance; upholds clinic policies and serves as a role model.
Ensures direct reports meet daily, monthly, and annual accountabilities and are knowledgeable of their duties.
Motivates staff, provides praise and constructive feedback to elicit high productivity.
Provides direction to associates regarding accountability for their actions and communicates plans to supervisors.
Conducts or participates in annual associate performance reviews and coaching sessions.
Verifies licensure/certification of direct reports, monitors compliance, and maintains confidentiality.
Conducts hiring, correcting, and termination activities within department and maintains confidentiality.
Supports supervisor/manager in administrative functions such as data reports, preventive maintenance, inventory, and cost reduction targets.
Attends and assists with department meetings.
Maintains licensure/certification and completes clinic competencies as required.
Participates in developmental and skills training.
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited healthcare program related to the hiring department or one year experience in a related medical department.
One year DMC associate experience, preferred CMA.
Graduate from an accredited school with a clinical externship for CMA training.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Experience
OB/GYN experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Good PC skills and basic keyboarding & typing.
Strong clinical competencies (injections, vitals, etc.).
Customer service skills.
Experience supporting, training, and mentoring others.
Ability to use good judgment in stressful situations.
Ability to learn medical terminology.
Ability to prioritize tasks.
Technical expertise matching required skills.
Experience with EMR and/or scheduling systems.
Appropriate credentials and state licensure (e.g., RN, ARRT, CMA, MA, specialty training).
Current CPR certification.
Certification for specific specialties (ACLS, PALS, OCN, specialized training for certain departments).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Complete all required training and pass pre-employment physical (including lift test if required).
Rotate shifts and locations as needed.
Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts per policy.
