
Nursing Assistant Intensive Care Unit

Overview
Nursing Assistant ICU — UnityPoint Health, St. Luke's, Sioux City Downtown. Hours: Full Time; 36 hours per week. Schedule: Nights, 7pm–7am. The Patient Care Tech/Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout all nursing areas. Duties include assisting patients with their ADLs, transporting patients using appropriate equipment and ambulation, documenting care and treatments, observing patients for safety and changes in condition, and reporting to the appropriate staff.
Responsibilities
Delivery of Care: Assists patients with ADLs according to hospital procedures, reports abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to the nurse in charge.
Assists with ambulation of patients and uses assist devices as appropriate to protect patient and staff.
Restocks rooms and maintains a safe and clean environment.
Follows established infection control policies and supports patient safety.
Obtains EKG under the direction of the nurse.
Documents vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care given to patient in the computer system.
Development
Attends appropriate training programs, unit meetings and other mandatory sessions.
Seeks involvement in unit improvements, quality projects, and enhancements to patient care.
Effectively communicates with team members, physicians, ancillary staff, and patients; verbal communication is clear and concise; written communication is legible and uses approved abbreviations.
Uses a patient/family-centered approach to care.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
Demonstrates UnityPoint Health values and standards of behavior; adheres to policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
Maintains regular, reliable attendance to meet department needs.
Keeps current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Complies with HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other regulatory requirements; applies knowledge to practice.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is aware of compliance requirements for federally funded programs and reports any concerns to hospital leadership; takes appropriate action on compliance matters.
Qualifications
Education
Must be actively enrolled in a high school or equivalent program.
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience
Previous hospital or nursing home experience as a Patient Care Tech and/or completion of nursing school training covering Patient Care Tech duties, or must attend UPHSL Patient Care Tech Training.
Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s)
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire required.
Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
